HERTS GREEN VALLEY – WHO ARE WE?
We are a new group formed in 2018, from a collective desire to protect the Mimram Valley and to enable it to flourish. The emerging Mission statement for Herts Green Valley, which is still being worked, on is…..
The aims of the group are to maintain the Mimram valley as an area which has five main assets:
Recreational
Inclusive
Safe
Clean
Peaceful
Recreational
The valley already contains parks, waterways, cycle paths, some sports clubs but none are coordinated in a manner which promotes the area as a whole in a way that the Stanborough amenity has been developed. There are opportunities to build more facilities which will appeal to a wide user base through the use of all-weather facilities; athletics, cycle track, swimming etc.
Inclusive
The valley hosts 5 primary/junior schools and could be developed as a useful outdoor facility for scientific and nature studies
Safe
Although WGC has several good cycle tracks and footpaths, there are few within the Mimram valley itself. This presents a good opportunity for both ‘commuter’ cycling and ‘recreational’ cycling
Clean
If the area is to be developed as a recreational area, then it needs the environment to be kept clean and pollution minimised. Speed restrictions on the B1000 Hertford Road are a welcome step in the right direction in improving air quality. The group will resist the re-instatement of the Panshanger airfield because of its negative impact on the environment.
Peaceful
The valley itself is primarily a rural area encompassing the villages of Digswell, Tewin, Tewin Wood and the surrounding area. The HGV group will seek to maintain the peaceful nature of the district which is so important to many of the residents.
We would invite likeminded people to join the group and to work with us on our plans and ideas to make this mission a reality. Alternative ideas and approaches always welcome …so please join and get involved.
